Computational Reality is used here as an umbrella term for many kinds of
computer-generated media. "Reality" does not necessarily mean an attempt to simulate
reality, but rather that there are aspects of the computer-generated media that
relate in some way to human action - primarily involving interactivity and immersion.
"Computational" means that the emphasis is on computer-generated media, not using
actual photos, video, etc.
Some of these are...
- Rendered Images - static images rendered algorithmically or from
3D models.
- Animations - 2D or 3D animations rendered frame by frame for passive viewing.
- Interactive Game/Toy - All the variety of PC/Console 2D/3D games.
- Virtual Reality - Includes a variety of media, generally for viewing with
a headset.
- 360 Photos - Static monocular images with directional viewing.
- 3D Images - Static binocular images with directional viewing.
- 360 Video - Monocular video with directional viewing.
- 3D Video - 180 or 360 binocular video with directional viewing.
- 3D Animation - Directional and positional viewing, possibly with interactivity.
- Augmented Reality - Generated images overlayed on visual field.
